sandstormRibs

sandstorm's lamb

We’re regulars now at China restaurant and the waitresses know me by name. This is because they have a great deal on Peking duck on Monday nights. I’ve heard that this restaurant is the most authentic in Stockholm and I’ve been meaning to try their à la carte menu.

I was here with a friend last Wednesday night and the place was half full. There was a steady flow of customers  leaving and coming but there were only 2 wait staff so they harried back and forth and the service of course suffered because of it.

Anyway, we both ordered the sandstorm dishes – ribs and lamb. From the description, it sounded fantastic and the use of cumin in Chinese cooking is a surprise to me. They also had copious amounts of Sichuan pepper because my tongue was numb the whole time I was eating it. I had the ribs and it was very nice with the meat falling off the bones. My friend had the lamb but she didn’t like the velveting technique that was applied to the lamb. I didn’t find the texture strange but we both wondered if the dish was lamb because it didn’t taste like lamb at all! She also found the lamb more oily and in the end, we switched dishes. Good thing I’m not too picky! ;)

One strange thing did happen. I ordered a bottle of red wine and she confirmed this several times as if 2 ladies shouldn’t be consuming an entire bottle of wine. Then when she delivered the bottle, we saw that it was already opened (the screw cap was opened). This made us a bit suspicious and we didn’t know what to make of it!

From this dining experience, I’m not sure what to think about the restaurant and would therefore love to give it another chance! I’m totally sold on the Peking duck but …
