Görvälns slott – review

We were here for our last meal from this year’s Restaurant week – last and best from what I had read from a review from Aftonbladet. They had a pre-tasting of offerings from restaurant week and this place got top marks, even better than Jonas so we HAD to eat here ;)!

The bread tray consisted of 4 different types, all homemade I believe. One was multi-grain and slightly sweet, one with sun-dried tomato, sesame crisps, and plain loaves, all in miniature. The slab of butter on an oval rock added a touch of rusticity to the very posh surrounding.

Steak tartare with a cream of rapeseed oil, a crisp of dehydrated oats, 2 types of yellow beets – puréed and and pickled. This was absolutely divine, the best tartare I’ve ever eaten with the ingredients very fresh and top-notched and the cream of rapeseed oil was an epiphany!

Perfectly baked cod with a dill sauce, a horseradish foam, (brynt) butter and potatoes was a revelation for hubby and he couldn’t stop raving about it. Although the fish was perfectly cooked and tasted fine, it smelled off when the waitress brought it in which made me a bit wary. Hubby was happy though and he didn’t smell anything funky.

My wild duck was tiny in comparison to hubby’s dish but my tummy was happy with it when I polished it all off. The duck meat was amazing – I’ve never had wild duck before and I’ll be on the lookout for it in the future, without a doubt. The duck was flavoured with tarragon and apple, with two types of carrots, a goat’s cheese croquette, tarragon foam and topped with nuts. This was hands-down the best dish I’ve tasted during Restaurant week!

This place is very posh and I assume only for the well-to-do. We were able to nab a table and this was hands-down the best meal from Krogveckan 2013! The food was out of this world and deserved more than 5 out of 5 😉

I think the reason why the food here was better than Restaurang Jonas was because the ingredients were top-notched and the dishes didn’t contain alot of ingredients that confused the palate. What was there on the plate had a reason to be there, except for the goat’s cheese croquette. Everything was cooked to perfection and every bite was pure enjoyment!

The toilet was very clean. The decor was rustic but with taste!
