Restaurang Jonas – review
After reading a review (in Swedish) from Swedish national daily, DN about their exceptional dining experience at Jonas, I just had to eat here, regardless of what was on the menu. As it turned out, the menu is an app of lemon baked cod served with watercress and butter and a main is crispy side of pork served with a creamy mushroom salad and no other choice. Not a problem at all, I said to myself.
So here we were, 8 pers on a Tuesday nite at 7pm at Jonas. The resto looked really good from the outside and even better inside. There are 2 separate dining areas but it was still very cozy. The decor is very modern with pictures of veg and fruits and jars of preserved food.
We were pleasantly surprised when presented with a free amuse bouche of langoustine soup with Jerusalem artichoke and Västerbotten cheese. Absolutely divine! I guess my expectation got even higher after that and Jonas didn’t let me down!
The starter of baked cod was heavenly! A perfect balance of tartness from the white crumbs(?) and sweetness from the watercress cream. The cod skin was a perfect crispiness while the cod itself was slightly salty and still had a chew to it. The cod terrine was smooth and silky and balanced well between sourness and creaminess.
The crispy side of pork was a misnomer as the pork was strands of piggy crispiness. I would’ve preferred the pork as a whole piece of meat as the dish became a bit monotonous towards the end. Also, I felt that more greens were needed to balance out the texture as well as some tartness. Unfortunately, there was too many things going on in the dish with the result being that my tastebuds got very confused! Also, the pork was slightly too salty. This dish was a 4/5 while the app was a clear winner, 5+.
During the evening, Jonas showed himself several time on the floor but I was too shy to get his autograph!
The unisex toilets were clean and they have hand towels. Very nice!
Michelin-star quality food! A bargain at 2 courses for only 200 crowns. Too bad the resto is probably fully booked by now. I’d come back here anytime!
