El Diablo – review

I’ve been wanting to eat at El Diablo forever it seems and the opportunity finally came! The menu offered through Bookatable looked really good and I was looking forward to the meal.

The restaurant was quite lively on a Wednesday nite at 6:30p.m. and it continued to be so for 2 hours, at which point it was packed. We had the 3 courses for 299kr and it was worth it.

El Diablo - veal carpaccio

I had the veal carpaccio and it was heavenly. Thin slices of flash-fried veal with some some pickled baby onions, horseradish cream and Västerbotten cheese. Everything married really well together from the cheese, pickled onions, to the horseradish cream. I enjoyed every bite!

ElDiablo - fish

For the main, I chose the fish dish with a seafood and chili vinaigrette, raw thinly sliced fennel, artichoke, and grilled half lemon. The chili added a slight zing to the vinaigrette and the fish was perfectly pan fried.

El Diablo - spare ribs

I also had a taste of my friends’ spare ribs and it was a hit! Very tender and the taste was more ham-like than bbq. Still, very enjoyable!

El Diablo - almond cake

The dessert was a slice of almond cake with candied almonds on top and some caramel on the side. It came with ice cream as well but I asked for it without. The cake was divine and the spices in it made it very appropriate for the holiday.

I just had a look at the menu and it’s very limited but what shocked me was the price. The carpaccio that I raved about is 125 crowns, the fish dish 225 crowns, and dessert around 100 crowns. This means that the offer from Bookatable is very fair!

I would love to come back to the restaurant but I hope that the portions would be a bit bigger if I were to pay the full price! Highly recommended!
