Tradition restaurant – review

We bought a Groupon for this restaurant – 3 courses plus a glass of bubbly for 495kr which was a steal! I was surprised by the size of this resto, in Gamla Stan, but hubby had been to the söder location and he said that it was even smaller. Anyhow, we were shown to our table and the groupon taken care and the bubbly was on its way. All very efficient!

The bubbly was very nice and so was the bread. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough butter.

I was really pleased with my app – Jerusalem artichoke soup with smoked salmon tartar on unleavened bread. This was very yummy and the balance of salt was perfect. The tartar was especially delish and I was impressed that the soup was boiling hot, which wasn’t always my experience.

Hubby chose the gravad lax, cured salmon with mustard sauce and pickled fennel, and he wasn’t too impressed. It was good but not a stand-out.

For my main, I had the pan-seared arctic char with salsify, savoy cabbage & roasted Jerusalem artichoke sauce. This was perfect in every way from the perfectly seared fish with crispy skin to the sauce. Wow!

Unfortunately, it wasn’t hubby’s night as his dish again failed to impress. Each ingredient was cooked perfectly but I thought that the amount of salt was a bit overwhelming. I pointed this to the waitress and she wasn’t happy with my comment, so much so that when she came to clear the dessert plates, she asked hubby if the desserts were too sweet. I wasn’t present at the time. The cheek!!!!

For dessert, I went for the warm rosehip soup with cardamom ice cream and almond cookie. This was the perfect ending to an almost perfect evening. The soup was homemade with the right balance of sweet and sour, the ice cream wasn’t too creamy (everything in the resto is lactose-free) and the cookies were perfect. I enjoyed my dessert.

Hubby had the chocolate “sandwich” with milk chocolat parfait and cloudberry sauce. This was also yummy but the other dessert was just a bit more exciting!

All in all, a nice evening out with great food and good service. I have to take a point off for the waitress’ cheekiness. Because we had a groupon, it wasn’t a deal breaker but I don’t have the funds to dine here again.
