Ho’s Thai restaurant – review
Ho’s Chinese on Hornsgatan has been praised for its authentic cuisine so I wanted to try their Thai resto. It was hit and miss.
My friend and I were here on a Sunday afternoon. As it’s located near Hornstull strand, there were some customers there even though it was in the middle of the summer holiday. We ordered duck in red curry and a pork laab.
The duck was fantastic. Enough meat with authentic Thai veg – pea eggplants, green beans, bamboo and a sauce to die for! It was oily, unctuous, perfectly spicy, with a sweetness that was delicious but not at all cloying.
Now to the laab. The portion was huge but the thing that got to me was the amount of galangal – mucho and in big pieces. It wasn’t fun picking them out. The meat wasn’t too flavourful and not spicy enough. It was also missing enough ground rice. All in all, a miss. Added to that, the sticky rice that came with tasted like it had been microwaved and not at all fluffy and light. How could they not know how to cook sticky rice?
The service was all right. I’d definitely come back here to have the red curry duck again and to try the som tum but would stay away from the laab!
