Carousel – review
It was as I feared. Restaurant week has gone to shits, see my previous post! Pardon my language. We were a party of four dining at Carousel on a Tuesday evening at 6pm. The menu was 2 courses for 300kr. The vibe was good and the service excellent in general.
Anyways, I had the red shrimps for starter while the others had the beets and goats cheese salad. As soon as I saw the shrimps, I knew I was in for a treat and the dish met all expectations! The shrimps were perfectly grilled and not overly salt. It was totally worth the effort of peeling the shrimps! This was excellent while 2 in the group chewed through their very bleh salad.
For the main, I went for the monk fish with arroz and sepia (cuttlefish). This was a bust! The monk fish was cold while the arroz was too salty and there was too much acidity. Maybe the wine hadn’t cooked out yet?! The sepia was sparse. My companions had the duck and although the rilette (confit duck) and sauce were very good, the breast was tough. It was now my turn to drool at their plates of duck!
The portions were a good size but too bad the food wasn’t up to scratch.
The desserts were a bit schizophrenic as the almond cake was huge while the creme Catalana was tiny in comparison. The taste of the cake was good I heard.
The service was very good except at the beginning when the waiter was a bit put out when we add another order as one person who wasn’t going to show showed up after all.
Value for money: 8/10
All in all, it was a good thing that it was restaurant week as I’d have been majorly disappointed to dine here and pay full price. As it was, it was an disappointment but one that I won’t dwell on.
